How to Check Your EPF Balance in India

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is a retirement savings scheme available to employees in India. It helps employees build up a corpus for their post-retirement years by allowing both employers and employees to contribute towards the fund. With the rising cost of living and the increasing need for financial security, it is essential for individuals to keep track of their EPF balance regularly. Methods to Check Your EPF Balance

Using the EPFO portal

The official online portal of the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is the most reliable way to check your EPF balance. Follow these steps:

a. Visit the EPFO portal: epfindia.gov.in/site_en/index.php

b. Click on the “Our Services” tab and select “For Employees.”

c. Click on “Member Passbook” under the “Services” section.

d. Log in using your Universal Account Number (UAN) and password. If you haven’t activated your UAN, follow the guidelines provided on the website.

e. After logging in, your EPF passbook will be displayed, showing your updated EPF balance.

Using the Umang app

The Umang app is a government initiative aimed at providing multiple government services on a single platform. You can check your EPF balance using the Umang app by following these steps:

a. Download the Umang app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

b. Register or log in using your mobile number.

c. Search for “EPFO” in the app and select the “Employee Centric Services” option.

d. Click on “View Passbook” and enter your UAN and OTP received on your registered mobile number.

e. Your EPF passbook and balance will be displayed on the screen.

SMS-based balance check

To check your EPF balance via SMS, make sure your UAN is linked with your KYC details, such as your Aadhaar, PAN, or bank account. Follow these steps:

a. Type “EPFOHO UAN ENG” and send it to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number. (Replace ‘ENG’ with your preferred language code, if needed.)

b. You will receive an SMS containing your EPF balance and other details.

Missed call service

EPFO also offers a missed call service for employees to check their EPF balance. Ensure that your UAN is activated and linked with your KYC details before using this service.

a. Give a missed call to 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number.

b. You will receive an SMS containing your EPF balance and other details.
