10 Movies To Watch Before The Oscar Season Hits Us

For every movie buff and enthusiast out there, the most exciting time of the year is just about to arrive and no it’s not any film festival, it is The Oscars.

The Academy Awards that have been facilitating the best movies, actors and everything else, are soon going to be here (in fact they would roll out on March 4, 2018). This means we all need to get ready for all the movie debates and fights, regarding who would win what, very soon. However, all of these debates are only fun when you actually know and have seen these movies and performances.

Because let’s be real, one just can’t comment on how good a movie might be, for Academy Awards, without even watching them.

Plus, this makes the entire Oscars much more fun and interesting. The three-hour-long ceremony is about a million times more exciting if you’ve seen the films, and have favorites in the running. The victories are sweeter when you’ve been rooting for them for months; the losses, more bitter. Like literally, who can forget the big hula hoop that happened last year regarding the best movie category. Nothing can be compared to the happiness felt by the Moonlight lovers, right?

We have gathered 10 movies that are likely to garner Oscar nominations before the official one rolls out on January 23rd.

1. The Post

There’s nothing that can stop The Post from making it to the Oscars, after all the never-seen-before combination of Steven Spielberg, Meryl Streep, and Tom Hanks is something that deserves an Oscar of its own kind.

Potential Nominations: Best Actor (Tom Hanks), Best Actress (Meryl Streep) and Best Picture.

2. Call Me By Your Name

Call Me By Your Name had created a hype among the audience, even before the movie came out. With a strong social media fan base, the movie was basically on everyone’s must-watch list. It’s a story about a 17-year-old who falls madly, irrevocably in love with his family’s summer guest, and the guest falls in love back.

Potential Nominations: Best Picture, Best Director (Luca Guadagnino), Best Actor (Timothée Chalamet) and Best Supporting Actor (Armie Hammer, Michael Stuhlbarg).

3. Wonder Woman

This has to be the best superhero movie, ever to come out which makes Wonder Woman’s entry to the Oscars a pretty obvious one. Gal Gadot became an inspiration for millions of girls, all around the world, plus, having a female director made the entire thing, even more, fun to watch.

Potential Nominations: Best Picture, Best Director (Patty Jenkins).

4. The Big Sick

The Big Sick’s entry to the Oscars would make it an exception to be remembered for a long time. The Big Sick is based on Nanjiani and his wife’s real history.

Potential Nominations: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress (Holly Hunter), Best Original Screenplay

5. Lady Bird

Various critics have already fallen in love with Lady Bird and its cast and its story. It’s a movie about a girl and her dreams of moving to a place with “interesting people”, however, before that she has to complete her final year of high school, complete with first loves, dirtbag boyfriends, prom dress shopping, fights with her mom, and spurts of goofing off with her best friend.

Potential Nominations: Best Picture, Best Director (Greta Gerwig), Best Actress (Saoirse Ronan), Best Supporting Actress (Laurie Metcalf), Best Original Screenplay.

6. I, Tonya

This is considered to be one of the biggest roles of Margot Robbie’s career which has the potential to eventually make or break the actress. Based on the real-life story of Tonya Harding, and her rise and fall in the world of competitive ice skating. Robbie plays the craziest character of her career, yes, way too crazier than Harley Quinn.

Potential Nominations: Best Picture, Best Actress (Margot Robbie), Best Supporting Actress (Allison Janney).

7. The Disaster Artist

This is a movie about the worst movie ever made and it definitely excelled in its department. The Disaster Artist is about the unconventional creation of the “Citizen Kane of bad movies”, The Room. This is considered to be the best movie of James Franco’s career.

Potential Nominations: Best Actor (James Franco), Best Adapted Screenplay.

8. Stronger

Jake Gyllenhaal is back with another strong and emotional performance with Stronger. The movie is based on the Boston Marathon bomb explosion and one man’s brutal recovery process from it. Gyllenhaal gave a heart-wrenching performance in this one.

Potential Nominations: Best Actor (Jake Gyllenhaal), Best Supporting Actress (Tatiana Maslany).

9. Battle Of The Sexes

Previous year’s winner of Best Actress award is back with her this year’s bet and it’s Battle Of The Sexes. The movie is based on the real-life highly televised clash between Billie Jean King against self-pronounced “male chauvinist pig,” former tennis champ Bobby Rigg.

Potential Nominations: Best Picture, Best Actress (Emma Stone), Best Supporting Actor (Steve Carell), Best Original Screenplay.

10. Dunkirk

If you haven’t watched Dunkirk yet, then you’re missing out on some really important things in life. Dunkirk is one of the best movies of 2017, in which Christopher Nolan brilliantly recreated the rescue of 300,000 British, French, Belgian, and Dutch troops from the beaches of Dunkirk, France in May 1940.

Potential Nominations: Best Picture, Best Director (Christopher Nolan), Best Supporting Actor (Mark Rylance).

These 10 movies are an absolute must-watch for anyone who even remotely considers themselves a cinema buff. These movies not only come with a brilliant story but also with some of the finest performances after a really really long time.
