Oscars 2018: Academy Award Paid Tribute To Sridevi And Shashi Kapoor In The Memoriam Segment

Oscars are considered to be the biggest night for Hollywood where the deserving are awarded for their astonishing work in movies that would be considered the greatest for a long time in history. Every big and small award from the Oscars means the world to anyone working in the movies, all around the globe.

Each and everything in the almost 3-hour ceremony is once in a lifetime opportunity for various nominees and awardees in the industry. Along with this, there’s a very special segment in the show that carries forward the memories of people in the industry the world lost in the last year – The Memoriam Segment.

Last year, when Om Puri was included in the Memoriam segment video, Bollywood and Puri’s fans went through a lot of emotions. The same happened this year too. Legendary Actress Sridevi and Actor Shashi Kapoor were also included in 2018 Oscars Memoriam Segment.

Each year, Oscars include an In Memoriam section, where they pay homage to members of the industry who passed away in the preceding year. A musical performance as the screen on stage showcases a montage of those who were lost but will always be remembered.

This year, Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam was the man behind the extremely beautiful tribute. Vedder sang a rendition of Tom Petty’s “Room At The Top” and moved everyone in the audience and at home watching the Oscars with his music.

Various Sridevi and Shashi Kapoor’s fans took it to Twitter to express their appreciation for the Academy Awards for including those two in the segment. Check out the reactions over here:

While Shashi Tharoor’s presence in the Memoriam montage was somewhat expected, due to his work in the Merchant-Ivory banner, it was Sridevi’s name that took the audience aback, considering the world lost her just a few days back and she was a huge star in India but never worked in foreign films.

Apart from the Bollywood biggies, “Silence of the Lambs” director Jonathan Demme as well as “Rocky” director John G. Avildsen, “Night of the Living Dead” director George Romero were among the filmmakers who died in the past year. Notable late movie stars who have included Roger Moore, Martin Landau, Harry Dean Stanton, Sam Shepard, Jeanne Moreau and John Heard.
