Narcos: Netflix Is Being Sued For $1 Billion By Pablo Escobar’s Brother

Pablo Escobar’s brother is all set to sue Netflix for $1 Billion due to a copyright claim on Narcos.

One of Netflix’s most popular shows, Narcos is getting in midst of some riff for quite some time now. At first, it was the unsolved murder of veteran Narcos location scout Carlos Muñoz Portal and then came threats from Pablo Escobar’s brother Roberto de Jesus Escobar Gaviria.

Now, the Pablo Escobar’s family suing Netflix with a copyright claim against the popular series Narcos, for $1 billion, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter.

However, this is no recent lawsuit against the Internet giant. Actually, the Escobar Inc., which is the company owned by Roberto de Jesus Escobar Gaviria, filed the lawsuit against Netflix last year with a demand of $1 billion. They have decided to sue Netflix for using the Medellí cartel founder’s name and story without any permission from the family. The details of this legal battle have been brought to light by the Hollywood Reporter, this year.

In an interview with THR, Escobar Gaviria said, “I don’t want Netflix or any other film production company to film any movies in Medellin or Colombia that relates to me or my brother Pablo without authorization from Escobar Inc. It is very dangerous. Especially without our blessing. This is my country.”

Even if you don’t know anything about Narcos, one surely knows that only an Escobar can make a statement like this and get away with it. On the light of recent murder, Gaviria also said that Netflix should start providing hitmen to their people as a form of security.

In the end of the interview, Gaviria also admitted that “If we don’t receive it, we will close their little show.”

Now, no one knows what the future of Narcos will be and how things will eventually turn out for it, if Netflix for all in, refuses to give in $1 billion to the Escobar Inc.
