Audrey Hepburn died at the age of 63 at her home in Switzerland, and her death was announced by Unicef, the United Children’s Fund, for which she had been a special ambassador since 1988. Audrey Hepburn, originally named Edda van Heemstra Hepburn-Ruston, was born on 4th May 1929, near Brussels to an English father and Dutch mother. Growing up in the war era and having a first-hand horrific experience of war herself, she joined Unicef and travelled extensively to Africa and Latin America.
Hepburn is one of the 14 people to ever receive the prestigious EGOT, which is a term to describe those rare individuals who have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony Award for their work. One of the most incredible things about her is that she won an Oscar for her very first film ‘Roman Holiday’ which marked the entrance of a star in the industry.
