Ever since women in Hollywood started speaking against Harvey Weinstein, and many others like him, about the sexual misconducts they did over the course of their career, Hollywood has changed. Now, more and more women and men are coming forward with their own grueling experiences in Hollywood.
As the number is constantly increasing, in terms of our favourites being revealed to be a sexual predator, there’s one name which is somehow still relevant even after being accused of pedophilia and sexual abuse. Woody Allen, one of the directorial geniuses in Hollywood, has been long accused of sexually abusing his 7-year-old stepdaughter Dylan Fowler. Everyone knows about it, yet, somehow Hollywood missed out on him while they were ousting predators from the circuit.
However, ever since the women of Hollywood have decided to come together against the usual sexual misconduct in Hollywood with Time’s Up movement, many are reconsidering their stand on Allen. Actor Timothée Chalamet, who is generating a lot of Oscar buzz for his role in Call Me By Your Name, has announced that he will be donating his salary from Woody Allen’s movie A Rainy Day in New York to Times Up movement and other charities. Along with this, he has also promised to donate funds from his work on the film to the LGBT centre in New York and RAINN, an anti-sexual violence organisation.
Apart from Timothée Chalamet, many other actors have also come forward to express their regret of working with Woody Allen in the recent past. Ellen Page, from Juno, in a Facebook post, said that working Woody Allen was one of the biggest regrets of her life.
Dylan Farrow in an op-ed in December criticised the hypocrisy of Hollywood which has kept Allen safe and been quiet over the alleged abuse from her father. Recently, Mira Sorvino, who worked with Woody Allen on Mighty Aphrodite, even came forward and penned an open letter to Farrow and said that she was terribly sorry for working with Woody Allen.
Now, Alec Baldwin has come forward with his support for the Annie Hall director. In a series of tweets, Baldwin defended Allen and called other actors “unfair and sad” for voicing their regrets over working with him.
“Woody Allen was investigated forensically by two states (NY and CT) and no charges were filed,” Baldwin tweeted. “The renunciation of him and his work, no doubt, has some purpose. But it’s unfair and sad to me. I worked w WA 3 times and it was one of the privileges of my career.”
After this, he retweeted a number of people who were sharing the story of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen’s adopted son Moses Farrow, who claims that his mother “brainwashed” him.
Baldwin also tweeted, “Is it possible to support survivors of pedophilia and sexual assault/abuse and also believe that WA is innocent? I think so. The intention is not to dismiss or ignore such complaints. But accusing ppl of such crimes should be treated carefully. On behalf of the victims, as well.”
Alec Baldwin till now has worked with Woody Allen on Blue Jasmine and To Rome With Love.
Till now, three stars from the movie, A Rainy Day in New York have pledged to give up their paychecks. Including Timothée Chalamet, Griffin Newman and Rebecca Hall. Along with these stars, Elle Fanning, Selena Gomez, and Jude Law are also starring in this movie.
