Tapsee Pannu’s Thappad Will Be Competing Against Oscar-Winning Parasite At Asian Film Awards

2020 has to be one of the worst years we have as a world have collectively gone through. Everyone has to stay indoors, films and music concerts have been put on a hold, and entertainment buffs have nothing to tweak their interest anymore. However, before all of this came into existence, Anubhav Sinha’s Thappad took the Hindi box office by storm.

People were consistently raving about the movie, Tapsee Pannu, the supporting casts’ brilliant acting and Anubhav Sinha’s direction.

The audience called it one of the most ground-breaking films to come out of Bollywood in the recent past that shun light on our society without backtracking or sugar-coating the reality that millions of households go through. We had lost reality-based cinema in the chaos of commercial movies, biopics and your usual run-of-the-mill comedies. Moreover, the film forced its viewers to give a thought about the subject, which is something very rare these days.

If you’re also someone who has had the same thoughts on Thappad movie and considers it to be one of the best films in the Hindi Cinema then we have a great news for you. The film has bagged two nominations at the Asian Film Festival 2020 and its competition is with some of the finest films from Asia.

For one, Thappad would be competing against Oscar-Winning and History-Creating Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite for the best film, which is an honour in itself. In totality, Parasite has bagged 10 nominations at the prestigious AFF. Apart from the Best Film award, Thappad is also up for the Best Editing category.

There are two more films from India that have reserved a spot on the nomination list of Asian Film Festival – Jallikattu and Gully Boy. These two would also be competing against Parasite but in different categories – Best Original Music.

Both Thappad’s director, Anubhav Sinha, and lead, Tapsee Pannu, share their excitement about the nomination on their social media and shared the same with their fans.

Much like other awards ceremonies, even the Asian Film Festival will be going virtual this year, as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, it will be hosted from Busan, South Korea. A total of 39 films are competing in the festival and they’re from 11 different countries.

The Chairman of the Busan Festival, Lee Yong-Kwan, in a conversation with Variety Magazine, shared that they’re excited and anticipated for all the award winners, despite all the limitations levied due to the global pandemic.
