Movie: Kapoor And Sons
Cast: Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt, Fawad Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Ratna Pathak Shah and Rajat Kapoor.
Director: Shakun Batra
Rating: ****
Script: The concept of a dysfunctional family Drama may not seem new but Shakun Batra and Ayesha Devitre Dhillon have done a tremendous job in providing every character a justified chance to flourish. Every character of the films grows as the film proceeds. A story where two brothers fall for the same girl is written too brilliantly that you will relate to every flawed emotion of the film. The most fresh thing about the script is that it does not lose its momentum. The connectivity of the scenes, spot on dialogues and character nuances works just perfect in the movie.
From a fight scene to a lovely celebration every bit of the script contains realistic nature and that’s what makes is a brilliant one. The projection of sibling rivalry where one is perfect and younger one is always expected to grow up in the shadow of the elder one is actually worth lauds. The script touches a sensitive issue of India, ‘where the younger siblings are considered as an irresponsible one and the label becomes the part of their personalities’, in an appreciating manner.
The script shatters the concept of the perfect family and projects that it is a collective effort from all the unit of the family that counts when a family fails. The character of Daadu is bizarre as he is a weed addict, porn-addict Daadu. The character is humorous but fails to impress after a certain time. The character of female lead Tia is a bubbly yet emotional one which could have been more interesting.
If you enjoyed the first half of the movie then the second half is an even better revelation of the drama.
Acting: All the major characters of the film are being played amazingly apt by the stars. Rishi Kapoor as Daadu will make you laugh and thank god that you never had a too chilled to be Daadu like him. Alia Bhatt as Tia looks stunning and she appears as cute and emotional simultaneously. Ratna Pathak Shah and Rajat Kapoor appears to be the perfect example of unhappily married but still behaving as Mr. and Mrs. Sidharth Malhotra as Arjun, the younger brother has done some pretty convincing job. He pulled out the character of a careless but ambitious person too well on screen. Fawad Khan as Arjun, the elder brother actually stole the show. His expressions and acting will make you fall in love and cry at the same time.
Music: The modern age family drama has the connecting background scores even when there are no dialogues and if you look at the songs, peppy and soothing both of the genre are there. The music and songs of Kapoor And Sons is perfectly relevant according to the script which makes Shakun Batra the perfect director for a twisted family drama.
If you cherish laughing crying and getting emotional while watching a drama this movie is definitely worth a watch.
