Akshay Kumar’s Bellbottom Will Premier On Disney+Hotstar!

Of late, it can be said, that India has developed a thing for spy flicks or thrillers based on the exploits of intelligence operatives. There’s obviously a lot of thrill attached to a perfectly executed cloak and dagger venture. And we’ve seen a fair bit of success attributed to Indian ventures. How? Well think of Kahaani, where Vidya Balan’s character was out on an untold mission to settle scores with the man who hurt her on-screen husband. Then came movies like Naam Shabana and Baby.

As a matter of fact, some of India’s newfound love toward the spy genre could also be attributed to the great offerings by Netflix. The Spy, based on the life of legendary Israeli operative Eli Cohen, Fauda, and Inside the Mossad are some of the exuberant ventures that have introduced the Indian audiences to a heady cocktail of thrill and daring, and above all- super spy operations. There was hardly a surprise then when Akshay Kumar, who lent his powerful presence to films like Naam Shabana as well as Baby announced Bellbottom, his upcoming flick.

But then as with these unpredictable COVID 19 times, the big question remained regarding the release date of the movie. When would one get to see Bellbottom? Since the cinemas are simply out of reach, could any of the sterling OTT mediums be a solution.

Well, you bet! As news turns out, Akshay Kumar’s upcoming Bellbottom is all set to premier on Disney+Hotstar in the imminent future and other than that, the news is that it’s been sold to the medium for an astronomical future.

Here’s what a news item published on Bollywood Hungama had to say on the story:

A source informed Bollywood Hungama, “Bellbottom will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar. The makers have agreed to the financials being offered. They feel it’s a practical decision since the theatres would not open anytime soon. The makers and Hotstar team are now deciding when to release this film.”

That being said, it was in early January (2021) where it was reported that the makers of Bellbottom had been in touch with Amazon Prime to release the film on their medium.

But it doesn’t appear as if the deal regarding Akshay Kumar’s upcoming movie worked out. Though, following Lakshmi, Bellbottom is Khiladi Kumar’s second consecutive film that will be released on an OTT platform.

Here’s what a source connected to the yet-to-be-released venture had to say:
“Amazon Prime was still interested in buying the film. But it is being said that Disney+ Hotstar had a better offer and thus won the coveted deal.”

What do you reckon might be the entire plot of the new exciting Akshay Kumar release? And are you going to watch it? Well, a spy flick with an action-packed narrative that takes the viewer back in time during one of India’s most daring operations certainly seems to pack a punch.

The rest, it must be said, would depend on the acting, narration and dialogues. But one thing is certain: since it’s a movie with Akshay Kumar in the lead, the exceptions to have a massive hit will certainly be sky high.
