India is obsessed with movies, just look at the number of films written, made and produced every year. More than that, Indian audience is particularly obsessed with love stories. The filmmakers in India have the tendency to sneakily add a romance story in almost each and every genre that they make. Because that’s all that sells at the box office and among the audience at home.

Same is with the world too. Afterall, love and romance is something that everyone wants to watch, time and again. Every year, thousands of movies are made and somehow almost every one of them has a love story in it. While some turn out to be weird due to their repeated love story formula, some simply blow your mind away, all thanks to the thought and sincerity put into them.

These amazing movies, more often than not, deal with the ever-so-complicated side of love, which often is left behind in other movies. Almost everyone should see these movies on complicated love to understand what romance and love truly is. It’s more than simply running towards each other in slow-mo, or even signing beautiful romantic songs. It’s how you deal as a couple with all the ups and downs of your life or how easily your discern about each other’s issues.

We have gathered 7 of the best movies on complicated love that should be watched by everyone, be it a married couple or someone single forever. These movies are more than those ‘happily ever afters’ and love songs.

1. Blue Valentine

Cast: Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams

Almost everyone who has watched this movie has fallen in love with it, due to all the ground realities that this movie mirrors. From falling in love to falling out of love, almost everything shown in the movie hits home for many and tells the story of how feelings changes, just like people. It’s a story about Dean and Cindy, and their life’s inevitable love story.

2. Love Aaj Kal

Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Giselli Monteiro

Love Aaj Kal is more than a love story between two people. It’s a modern romance juxtaposed with the story of a love-struck boy in 1965. The reviews might be flimsy on this one, however, you have to admit that Love Aaj Kal was able to give the gist of modern relationships where no one knows what they want.

3. Love Me If You Dare (Jeux d’enfants)

Cast: Marion Cotillard and Guillaume Canet

This French movie explains how some love stories never grow up and are often riding on the motorboat ego that never sinks. While it might be annoying, it’s true, love is a child game but accepting and announcing it is not. The movie about Julien and Sophie, two hot-headed childhood friends who are in love with each other, but would never really admit it, first.

4. 500 Days Of Summer

Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel

This can quite possibly be named one of the best rom-coms for this generation. The story is relatable, the characters are relatable and their feelings towards each other are also something that we all have experienced at least once in our lives. 500 Days of Summer captures a contemporary romantic sensibility, something that not many could really do.

5. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Even though the movie glorifies the power of one-sided love, it also explains how sometimes a love story can never really turn into a true love story. Something that indeed happened in the movie. You might love someone more than your life, and might not even care about it, that is how some (actually, most) love stories roll out and it’s the time when we get the fact in.

6. Saathiya

Cast: Rani Mukherjee and Vivek Oberoi

Apart from a beautiful soundtrack, Saathiya tells the story of two people who fall hard for each other and soon they’re ready to get married to each other and in the process of that, they elope together. It’s only after they’re married that they know how wrong and difficult certain decisions could be. Once they get married to each other, they get to know about the different sides of them. Saathiya is a great lesson in discovering that sometimes the things that make us fall for people, can also turn into the very things we despise about them.

7. Like Crazy

Cast: Felicity Jones and Anton Yelchin

Like Crazy is a love that doesn’t give sh*t for time and distance. As the saying goes, there’s someone for everyone, but what if that someone lives thousands of miles apart from you. Like Crazy is a story of two people fighting through all odds to be with the one they love the most, but the very fight to be together, wears them out, at a certain point. Something that often happens to two people who are separated by distance.

Check these movies out to understand and know about the complicated side of love that not many love to talk about.
