Volvo V90 Cross Country: A Unique Design With An Attractive Price

Volvo V90 Cross Country all-terrain station wagon is an addition to an already on the roll line by Volvo which consists of flagship S90 sedan, XC60 mid-sized SUV, and V90 station wagon. In the last three years, the Swedish car manufacturer has revealed a new modular chassis family, a new era of safety features, an all-new design language, and most importantly a new set of four-cylinder engines.

And when it comes to Volvo V90 Cross Country, everything has been perfectly infused into this new addition, making Volvo V90 Cross Country the best all-weather, all-terrain station wagon which is also highly practical with its go-almost-anywhere ability.

It’s not difficult to see there was so much of anticipation before Volvo V90 Cross Country’s launch as the everything on the car comes as part of the standard kit, and an option of 19-inch alloy wheels for better drive quality. Volvo V90 Cross Country drives well, offers top-notch materials inside out, great ride quality, and is also quite spacious for a 2-plus-2 family. Passenger safety has been kept at the heart of its design philosophy and we believe that Volvo V90 Cross Country has everything to regain the lost grounds in India.

The Volvo V90 Cross Country is priced at Rs 60 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and will be available in seven paint options – Bright Silver Metallic, Magic Blue Metallic, Crystal White Metallic, Osmium Grey Metallic, Havans Maple Brown Metallic, Onyx Black Metallic, and Denim Blue Metallic.

Volvo V90 Cross Country Exterior and Design

Volvo doesn’t seem too concerned with the fact that estate wagons haven’t quite done well in India and has brought in their own version in the form of Volvo V90 Cross Country.

There is no second opinion that the V90 Cross Country looks every bit stunning in fact, it looks even more balanced and attractive in real life than in pictures. From the front, it resembles the S90 sedan, but move to the side and you will notice a stretched out SUV Design, that looks refreshing when compared to other SUVs in India.

The plastic cladding is anything but a showpiece as the Volvo V90 Cross Country carries all the needed hardware for an all-terrain station wagon. Although the vehicle is based on the S90 sedan, a massive 210mm of ground clearance, 20-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels (shod with 245/45 section tyres), “Hammer of Thor”-shaped LED headlamps, bespoke Volvo-style angular LED tail lamps and all-wheel drive as standard as well as adaptive air suspension at the rear, dispel all doubts about its capabilities.

Volvo V90 Cross Country Interiors

This is where the Volvo V90 Cross Country actually shines. The minimalistic yet luxurious is carry forward in the vehicle and everything you touch delivers a sense of quality. The wooden inserts have been replaced by aluminum ones and there is a new heated multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters which goes perfectly with the 12.3-inch driver’s display.

The electrically adjustable as well as ventilated front seats are capable of cocooning the passengers in comfort while the back massage function that comes in three modes, variable speed, and intensity, helps the passenger relax. The effective cooling and heating functionality also comes in handy while the Napa leather upholstery adds to the luxury. The door pockets can accommodate a one-litre bottle each, at max.

Volvo V90 Cross Country Engine And Driveability

The combination of an 8-speed automatic gearbox and an AWD system transfer the power effectively to the road. The AWD system can even split the torque in 50:50 ratio between the axles if and when required.

ABS, EBD, traction control, emergency braking lights, rear-view parking camera, rear seat ISOFIX child-seat anchor points comes as standard and the radar-based assistance systems called IntelliSafe allows the Volvo V90 Cross Country to apply brakes automatically at lower speeds, stick to the lanes on the road, automatically cruise in traffic, and even change the speed.

V90 Cross Country also comes with hill start assist, hill descent control, 8 airbags, EBD, ABS, and a Lane Departure control system.

The Volvo V90 Cross Country is a capable all-terrain vehicle and does offer a lot for those who like to blend city commutes with regular weekend highways drives. However, its reception in India is still uncertain as the market is not matured enough to go for a wagon over a macho-SUV even if it ticks all the right boxes.
