Renault Captur Teased Ahead Of Indian Launch

Renault India is all set to introduce its crossover, Renault Captur, on September 21 and since it is going to be the first new offering from the carmaker in India, since Kwid, the crossover has been a highly anticipated launch of the year as well as an important one for the company itself.

Considering the launch of Fiat’s Jeep and the ever-increasing sales numbers of Hyundai’s Creta, the crossover segment has seen a huge demand in the last couple of years and Renault Captur is the company’s attempt to woo customers as the ‘Duster’ is aging dramatically in the increasing competition.

In order to maintain the hype of Renault Captur’s launch, the French carmaker has teased its new offering in a series of short clips which has given us a great idea of what the vehicle is going to look like.

While the Renault Captur is a globally recognized car which has recorded over 1 million sales worldwide, its India-spec compact crossover version made its world premiere last year. Renault Captur gets its underpinnings from the ‘Duster’ and is based on the same platform but the India-spec Captur will be larger in dimensions than its European counterpart and will also have a decent degree of localized add-on which might further increase in the coming future, to reduce the cost.

Up front, Renault Captur will feature an aggressive styled chrome-finished grille, sweptback headlamps which will be equipped with projector lamps, wide bumper, and C-shaped LED DRLs. Black cladding on the lower section and the 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels add to its road-presence and look really sharp on the SUV.

Renault Captur’s Indian spec is expected to measure 4,333 mm in length, 1,813 mm in width and 1,613 mm in height which makes it considerably bigger than the European version. It will come with a wheelbase of 2,674 mm and Ground clearance of 204 mm. Renault Captur will have an impressive boot capacity of 387 liters, expandable to up to 1,200 liters after folding the rear seats.

Coming to the features, Renault Captur is expected to come with a 7-inch Media-Nav infotainment system sitting at the center console, digital MID on instrument console, automatic climate control, and flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel. Other than that, keyless entry, ignition and locking, radio and as Bluetooth connectivity are also expected to add flair to the creature comfort list.

Renault Captur is likely to be offered with the same engine that has been powering the ‘Duster’ which means that under the hood power will be managed by the 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. The petrol version makes around 105 bhp of maximum power and 142 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as well as an optional CVT unit. 1.5-litre diesel motor, on the other hand, comes in two states of tune, churning out 79 bhp and 108 bhp. The diesel motor is mated with a 6-speed manual or Renault’s EasyR AMT gearbox.

Just like Kwid, Renault Captur is also expected to come with a spree of customisation options as well as a dual-tone scheme.

Official bookings for the Renault Captur will begin from September 22 and the crossover is expected to come with a starting price of Rs 10 lakh and the top-end variant might go all the way to Rs 16 lakh.
