Maruti Suzuki Swift is arguably the best product from the company and Swift has been one of the best-selling vehicles from Maruti Suzuki. When the vehicle was launched in 2005, it became an instant hit among Indians due to its ‘rally car’ like build up and the same kind of performance under the hood. Maruti Suzuki Swift has been in the top three hatchback list for over a decade and the company is planning to launch a redesigned version in 2017.
While 800 and Alto established Maruti Suzuki in India, Swift did wonder for the company in hatchback category. During the last decade, other car manufacturers have launched several products to compete with Suzuki Swift like Hyundai i20, Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat and the recently launched KUV 100 but only Hyundai i20 had the capability to haunt the undisputable champion in its dreams.
Maruti Suzuki Swift’s sales figures have taken a huge hit since the launch of Hyundai Elite i20 and largest car manufacturer in India is back with an all out new model.
According to the leaked brochure, the new generation Swift will be 15 percent lighter than the current model and will feature a sleeker design just like Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
Engine and drivetrain.
All the leaked specifications are for the Japanese Model and Indian model may retain most of the specs. Swift might be powered by a 1.2-liter petrol (83 bhp and 115 NM torque) and 1.0 liter turbocharged engine (110 bhp and 170 NM torque) while the 1.3 liter DDiS engine will also be retained by the company.
Transmission duties will be carried out by a 5-speed manual and CVT gearbox. A 6-speed automatic box will also be made available for RS models. Hybrid System and four wheel drive terrain are also on the cards. However, the Indian model may skip the latter.
Exterior
2017 Swift retains the previous dimensions but gets a newly designed front and rear fascia. The front end features a new hexagonal dual-split grille, LED daytime running lights and projector headlights. The bigger front bumper gets round fog lights and a wide air dam filter. Shoulder line and wheel arches remain the same including the A, B and C pillars. Rear door handle bars are positioned within the window panel, same as that of Chevrolet beat and KUV 100.
The rear profile looks similar to Maruti Suzuki Baleno with a flattened bumper and redesigned LED lights. Taillights retain their bulky shape but are now horizontally aligned, ditching the vertical design. Spoiler and number plate locations stay the same.
Interiors
Inside the cabin, 2017 Swift carrier an all black interior with silver accents here and there. There are circular A/C vents in the center while the corners ones retain the quadrilateral design. Major underlines of about the cabin a large touchscreen infotainment unit and an all-new flat bottom steering wheel.
Going by all these specifications, 2017 Swift will definitely give the much-needed refreshment to the model and by the time this facelift comes to India, Mahindra KVU 100, Hyundai’s i10 Grand, Elite i20 and Ford Figo will be waiting for a fight to eternity.
