Lamborghini Urus: When Big Becomes Beautiful And Speed Transcends To SUV

Lamborghini, the word itself is a symphony, a formidable alliance between beauty and speed. Call it a resonance of sorts for the most satisfying roars. From being the biggest Ferrari-rival to emerging as the liberator of the automotive industry, the Taurus (bull) has done it all. But there was one thing that Lamborghini still had to come up with, a Sports SUV.

For some, this was a long lost dream or something which Lamborghini could never execute without compromising with its image of coming up with aggressive designs and a spectacular one-off engine.

But here comes Lamborghini Urus to break all barriers.

For those who have been following every thread of this dream car from the Italian maker, might know for a fact that Lamborghini Urus has taken more than a couple of years in making. When these labor hours are put into perspective with the company’s potential, it’s a huge time frame and the end result had to offer nothing but excellence.

Living up to our expectations, here is the Lamborghini Urus which has broken several records in the day of its launch, itself.

Unsurprisingly, the Lamborghini Urus comes with styling that heavily leans on the company’s lineup of lavish sports coupes, the Gallardo and Aventador. But with Urus, they have added a rear seat, practical headroom for those sitting in the rear seat, an extra set of doors and some useful trunk space which had an effect on those iconic Lamborghini lines but for all the good reason.

In short, Lamborghini Urus is a Huracan sitting on more than its usual height with the same performance credentials on the road and even off the plain surface, this time.

Design and Practicality

Lamborghini Urus comes with a low-line coupe styling but an overall dominant as well as muscular appearance, thanks to the bulky but still sporty dimensions of the SUV. The giant front fender, low-level front spoiler, and large air intakes not only just give the beast a unique and powerful design but ensure improved aerodynamic efficiency.

With the engine now sitting at the front and a considerable 600-liter boot space at the rear, the specs-sheet of conventional Lamborghini’s are in for some modifications. Moreover, the one thing that a 6-footer would complain in a Taurus will be uncomfortable ingress and egress but with the Lamborghini Urus, it’s all going to change as it offers enough room for four full-grown passengers.

Interiors

Lamborghini Urus completely carryforwards the legacy of making every rider feel like a pilot which is surprisingly odd for an SUV. The slim Y-design of the dashboard coupled with the hexagonal design elements housing the air vents which completely compliments or echo the exterior theme. In the front, there are DNA memory sports seats which are fully electric with 12-way adjust feature and heating.

Each Lamborghini Urus comes with the well-known Lamborghini Infotainment System (LIS) that controls the car set-up, navigation, media, and telephone. All of these creature comforts are controlled by the dual-screen on the dashboard where the upper module is the key interface supporting entertainment, car status information and managing all the aforesaid functions.

The lower screen, on the other hand, provides a keyboard with handwriting-compatibility for inputs regarding information about the tyre pressure, service, seat heating and climate control. The infotainment system also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while the audio system comes coupled with Bang & Olufsen speakers featuring 3D sound and 1,700-watt output.

The Heart Of Lamborghini Urus

This is where all the heart-pumping action happens. There is a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine under the hood which produces 650bhp of maximum power and 850Nm of peak torque. The whole package results in some formidable figures which have made Lamborghini Urus, the fastest ever SUV in production.

While it can achieve the 0-62mph mark in 3.6 seconds and 0-124mph in just 12.8 seconds, the Urus is rated for a top speed of 189 mph. The 4.0-litre V8 comes paired with an automatic eight-speed transmission while the car offers all-wheel drive and torque vectoring for that sudden outburst.

There are a plethora of driving modes to tune the car in order to optimize performance levels in different environments, including off-road, which are STRADA, CORSA, SPORT, TERRA (off-road), NEVE (snow) and SABBIA (sand).

Features like rear-wheel steering coupled with all these driving modes will help Urus prove it’s a sports car which also happens to be an SUV.

The Lamborghini Urus goes on sale in the first quarter of 2018, with prices starting $200,000 in the US but expect it to go much higher according to different options. That said, considering that the Mercedes AMG G65s comes with an even higher price tag for the base variant Urus feels like a bargain.

As the matter of fact, a Lamborghini SUV in itself sounds like a crazy concept which can sell like hot cakes.
