How Has Mahindra’s XUV 400 EV Begun In The Vastly Competitive Market Such As India?

Few brands such as Mahindra of India have managed to accumulate tons of fans as well as garnered much respect in such a small amount of time. Isn’t that true?

Today, you don’t pick a Mahindra car for it being a powerful make; you know that when you opt for one of the most dependable names from the Indian car stable, you opt for something that is sturdy and will hold on to its own for the long run.

And continuing on that train of thought, perhaps it will only be wise to submit that one particular car from the famous Mahindra stable that has proven just that is none other than the XUV 400.

A robustly-built pure SUV, ideally suited for both- tough conditions as well as the city-bound travel, this not so old release from the house of Mahindra has truly caught the imagination of the Indian car buyer.

But there was more excitement with the coming of the news that the Mahindra XUV 400 EV was to be launched, which would presumably have given the competitive trinity of MG ZS EV, the Kona Electric and the Tata Nexon.

After successfully showcasing its pure electric make in different events and felicitations across the country, it could be argued that the carmaker didn’t come out with a product that would fizzle out in front of the pompous sound it made in widespread publicity and allied communications.

Rather fantastically speaking, the XUV 400 EV has already begun its journey in the cluttered and tough-to-prevail Indian car market with quite a bang. So just how is that?

Well, truth be told, the XUV 400 EV has, as per market reports, already registered no fewer than 10,000 bookings in the week that ended post the Republic Day.

Now, if that is not a rollicking start, then one is ought to ask- just what is?

But that being told, there aren’t a few, but as a matter of fact, a long list of features that make the Mahindra XUV 400 EV such a captivating pick and perhaps not just for the EV nerds, but also for the auto enthusiasts. The following are some salient features as per the portal Car Dekho:

The SUV is offered in two trims – EC and EL. There are two battery pack options, 34.5kWh and 39.4kWh, with the MIDC certified range of up to 375km and 456km respectively. The electric motor is rated at 150PS and 310 Nm, which drives the front wheels of the EV. The electric SUV can do a top speed of 150 kmph, and it sprints from 0 to 100kmph in 8.3 seconds.

It comes with three charging options, a 3.3kW charger with the base spec EC trim, that takes 13 hours to recharge the battery. Customers can even upgrade to a 7.2kW charger by paying an extra premium of Rs 50,000.  A 7.2kW wall charger is already available with the EL trim, which takes six and a half hours to replenish the battery. There’s also an option of a 50kW DC fast charger that can charge the battery from 0 to 80% in just 50 minutes.

Mahindra aims to deliver 20,000 units of the XUV400 EV within a year, i.e., by the end of 2023. The XUV 400 EV goes head to head with both the Tata Nexon EV Prime and NEXON EV Max, and it can also be considered an affordable alternative to the Hyundai Kona Electric and the MG ZS EV.
